Okay, maybe it's just me, but I find this damn amusing.

And it's my favourite commentator today! I wish he would commentate on MU games as well, he is the best in Hungary. He calls Schweinsteiger Schweini and he usually says things like: "Well, Valdez didn't have much to do today, in the second half he could have read a newspaper or take his dog for a walk."

Many beloved television shows are no longer with us, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Six Feet Under, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. What defunct television show do you miss the most?

I think I miss Dead like me the most. That is my 'mostest favouritest' TV show and it's such a shame it was cancelled. It was funny and serious, clever and silly, incredibly witty, incredibly original and just the type of show that makes you laugh and cry at the same time. Brilliant. Hey, it was created by Bryan Fuller, what did you think? :D

Shows I also miss: Firefly, Wonderwalls, Angel, Veronica Mars (though I didn't really like the second half of season 3). Oh, and I've watched the first episode of Pushing Daisies the other day and I know already that I'm going to miss that too.

I've been neglecting LJ for some time, but I'll really try not to do that anymore. It's just that a whole lot of shitty things happened all at once and I didn't feel like going on LJ.

City vs MU is on, which means I'm multitasking again, I still have a History essay to write, 15 lines in English on Hitler and the reasons why there was so little resistance to his rule in Nazi Germany. Fascinating, no? It would be actually, I'm just not in the mood right now.
God, not again, annoying commentator is annoying, he tries to pronounce all the names properly in English, but he fails miserably almost every time and he can't even speak Hungarian normally (dropping certain letters, which makes him sound like some uneducated arse from the countryside (I almost typed Countrycide XD), not that I have anything against people not living in cities, this is just something we say).
Ooookay, guys, why so aggressive? Second yellow card of the match, both to MU players and it's only the 32nd minute. I know, it's a derby, but still... play nice, guys. And Evra, keep it up, you are fantastic.

I baked this week as well, brownie this time for my sister's birthday (or rather it's light-brownie, I didn't have enough chocolate at home and I didn't feel like going shopping, because it was cold outside XD). Sadly, I fucked it up a bit, because of the stupid recipe: it said it should be in the oven for 20 minutes and it doesn't have to be all dry inside (you know, when you stick that needle in it). I baked it for 30 minutes, just to be sure and it still wasn't enough. It tastes awesome anyhow, so it was very much worth it.

List of the awesome (1st edition, 6 November 2008)
- in no particular order -

1. Yesterday. I've been to the uni I'm going to apply to: that place freakin' rocks. I got excited just by walking around on campus (I wanted to sit in for a lecture, but in the end I couldn't, no time), which looks great, most of the buildings have this very-old-and-serious-and-very-famous feeling to them (if that makes any sense XD), I love it. And there's this one building called 'Gólyavár' (means stork castle, freshmen are called storks in Hungary, I have no idea why whatsoever), where the freshmen have most of their lectures and it ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE A DAMN CASTLE. No kidding. XD I also had a coffee there, found out that the husband of an old English teacher of mine teaches there (he's British actually and I've met him before - I'd love him to teach me, if I was accepted) and I met some old friends I didn't expect to. All in all, great day. (It's doesn't matter at all that before all this I've had the worst, most boring Physics lesson of my life and after this I had an awful waltz rehearsal in the school's way too overheated gym.)

2. New How I Met Your Mother episode. I love angry!Ted. Angry!Ted is almost as funny as drunk!Ted. Plus, almost everybody was swearing in this episode, which was equally awesome. I don't know why, but I love it when English-speaking people swear. It's just... awesome. (And it is official: I am weird. But at least I'm proud of it.)

3. OBAMA WON. OBAMA WON! I quite liked his speech too, I watched it yesterday morning on CNN. To celebrate: OBAMA DANCE VIDEO! :D

This one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

4. JOSE WON. JOSE WON! I knew he would, I voted for him too (3 times, actually XD). Jose > Cabbageman Capello. Jose > all. To celebrate: JOSE'S PRESIDENTIAL SPEECH!

I love this show to bits.

5. Next week is the week of my szalagavató! Although I'll have no rest whatsoever for those 5 days, I know I'm going to enjoy every single minute of it.

Election Day in the USA tomorrow and I'm actually quite curious about the outcome. And who would I choose? That's easy.

Sadly, nowadays most of what happens in the US, affects in one way or another most parts of the world (see the financial crisis - for example my country, Hungary has to face some serious problems because of this, it was announced last week that we will get a more than 10 billion dollar rescue package from IMF), so the Americans better elect a good president.

Also, McCain's vice presidental candidate is Sarah Palin. All I have to say about her is DO NOT WANT.
"Current Governor of Alaska. Palin opposes the theory that global warming is man-made. She supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and to build a natural-gas pipeline from Alaska's North Slope. Not much for today, I still have to study for a Lit test and blow-dry my hair; also I want to go to bed earlier than usual. Actually, I'm trying to make this the new usual, because I have to get up at 5:30 am to catch the bus and as I go to bed after 11 pm most of the time, I'm always half-asleep in school.

So anyway, I baked again today, it has really become a new hobby for me, especially after getting so much praise. My mum's birthday's today and because I'm really bad at choosing gifts for people (OMFG it's almost Christmas), I decided to bake her a cake. So last night I spent some time with my friends, Google and Wiki and I chose the perfect one. It turned out great. \o/

Okay, here's the recipe, if you have some free time and feel like eating cake, I suggest you bake this. It's easy, quick and delicious.

Madeira cake with cream and jam
(serves 10)

Ingredients:
250 g butter (at room temperature)
220 g (caster) sugar
zest of a lemon
4 eggs (at room temperature)
250 g flour
baking powder (the original recipe said 3 tsp, but as I didn't have the faintest idea exactly how many grams that is I used one packet of baking powder which is 12 g)
250 g mascarpone cheese
200 ml cream (to be whipped)
jam (I used strawberry, but I guess you can use any kind)

Preheat the oven to 170°C. Beat the butter in a medium bowl with an electric mixer or hand beaters on high until smooth. Add the caster sugar and lemon zest and beat until very pale (almost white) and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well, on high, after each addition. Sift together the flour and baking powder. Gently fold the flour mixture into the butter mixture with a spatula or large metal spoon until combined. Be careful not to over-mix or the cake will develop a tough texture. Spoon the cake mixture into the loaf pan (greased with melted butter) and smooth the surface with the back of a spoon. Bake in preheated oven for 50-55 minutes or until cooked through. When ready, the cake will start pulling away from the sides of the pan and a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake will come out clean. Stand the cake in the pan for 5 minutes before turning onto a wire rack. Turn the cake the right way up and cool to room temperature. Cooling the cake on a wire rack will prevent it from steaming in its own heat trapped by the pan and will encourage a crisp crust to form.
After it cooled, slice it into two horizontally. Mix the mascarpone with the whipped cream and spread over one half of the cake. Spread over the jam on the other cake half and then sandwich it on top. Some icing sugar on top and voilá! (I would post a picture of my cake, but I took it with my sister's phone and she's already asleep. I'll edit this post tomorrow.)

I'm participating in NaBloPoMo! I have a new layout! I have Elle Bishop/Kristen Bell hair (kinda, but I still love it)! I've almost finished all of my French homework!

But why does calendar!Vidic look so angry? He is November in my official MU calender and I just can't figure out why would they choose this picture of him.

IOSS was so good yesterday, Sven organised a Halloween party, all footie fans who watch the PL, go and check it out on Youtube.
It's not only Sven who organised a Halloween party, it seems to become a custom here in Hungary as well. I'm not against it (Halloween seems to be a lot of fun in films or in TV shows), I just find it weird. Not to mention that some people in our neighbourhood didn't do it on Friday, but a day late, which is the Day of the dead here, not a happy let's-have-a-party kind of day. Still, there were children dressed up and they screamed "sweets or life!" instead of "trick or treat". They couldn't translate it better I guess, but this way the Hungarian sounds exactly like what bank robbers say to people, you know "money or your life". It's probably just me though.

No How I Met Your Mother this week. I'm angry. Oh, and I officially stopped watching Heroes. I always read a recap or something like that to know what happened, but I'm not going to waste 40 minutes of my life for that crap (even if it's getting better now, I'm done). Instead, I'm trying to get season one in English for a rewatch and I can finally start watching Pushing Daisies. I seriously need Bryan Fuller in my life.

Oh, well. Here comes an epic rant about Heroes. I need to get this out of my system.

Spoilers for season 3 ahead.

What is happening to Heroes? It's not just the terrible, meaningless, completely stupid and out-of-character death of Adam Monroe, who I adored and who was one of the most interesting characters with much more potential than many others on the show.

It is the plot holes, the inconsistencies, the lack of real character development (Sylar turning all good and nice in one day doesn't count, for me the headdesk moment of this season was Sylar saying something like turning from bad into good doesn't happen overnight) and the OOCness. Someone said it's almost like bad!fic and I might just have to agree.

One of my main problems with season 2 was that after the brilliant and action-packed first season, things happened way too slowly. They worked on that, well done, but instead of making it fast-paced, Kring is now racing on a motorway at 200 km/h, not noticing he has run over his own characters.

I'm not saying there aren't any good things about the new season. West is gone, Monica is gone (I loved the ability, but not the person) Claire is whining a bit less (one day she might just get her season 1 personality back), HRG still rocks and there are a few new characters with interesting storylines, like Tracy or Daphne (Matt/Daphne was just adorable in 3x04, but in 3x06 even they didn't buy it).

The big problem is that there are more cons to Heroes than pros these days. I don't want to make a list though, I'm sad enough about the show already, that would make it even worse.

Back to Adam. First of all, why did he die after losing his ability? His power was rapid cell generation, which means that all his damaged cells repair themselves and become healthy and perfect again. So isn't the reason why he can't grow old, thus can't die is because as soon as his cells start aging, they regenerate themselves? And when this happens all the cells go back to the "healthy and perfect" state and the aging would start all over again. If this is the case (of which I was sure until now) then suddenly losing this ability shouldn't mean death, it should mean Adam would start aging normally. Normally. Not in two seconds, but like a normal person.

Even if he has to die, couldn't have Kring done it in a way that would really advance the story or have an effect on other characters, not just wanting to let us know that Papa Petrelli is *omg so fucking badass and is the evilest evil ever*. (Off: many people complained about Peter losing his powers to his old man: actually, I think that was a good idea. Peter always wanted to get rid of his abilities, now it happened. I'm really interested how he will react to this indeed happening, what will he do after this and also, him figuring out how to save the world without his intuitive aptitude (or has he already figured out what made the future suck?) Oh, and by the way, Papa Petrelli doing this was what showed me how badass he really is.) Kring should fucking learn from Joss. That man knew how to kill off a character (and the right ones), my heart still aches when I think about for instance Fred's death on Angel (A hole in the world is such a brilliant episode, one of my favourites).

What was the effect of Adam's death on me? A couple of WTFs at my computer screen and several swear words aimed at Kring. This is one of the stupidest things he has ever done in Heroes. He had Hiro and Ando dig Adam up (not even Elle - sorry, that was the hardcore Adam/Elle shipper in me), gave him 10 minutes of screentime, then had Papa Petrelli kill him in the next episode before the opening credits. GO TO HELL KRING

PS: PLEASE SOMEONE SAVE HEROES! And please kill Mohinder before he turns into a gigantic CGI cockroach/spider/cockamouse.

Mix again, I finished this one last night!

So... Euro 2008 is on and better than ever, it even inspired me to make a compilation of football songs. There will be three parts: first half, second half and extra time. I'm only posting the first now, as I'm not finished with the other two yet. This one contains general football songs, which are not connected to any club or national team. Most of them were official anthems at competitions, but there are also topical tracks.

The title of the mix is the slogan of Euro 2008 and as Michel Platini said "it describes in a nutshell what the UEFA Euro 2008 has to offer: all kinds of emotions — joy, disappointment, relief or high tension — right up to the final whistle." Well, I think this can be applied to football in general as well, at least this is one of the main reasons why I love this game.

We had this assigment at school: translate a Hungarian folk tale to English and make it politically correct. Here's mine, I hope you'll like it. I've recently realised that I love creative writing assignments, in fact, I'm working on another piece now.

The aesthetically challenged prince and the visually pleasing princess

Once upon a time, over the hills and several democratic monarchies, there was a not at all tyrannic king. This king was the proud father of a facially gifted daughter, who resembled a star shining bright in the sky. The king of the neighbouring democratic monarchy had a son – his external characteristics were often compared to dark nights, but in the best possible way. This prince heard about the princess and decided to make an inspection of her.

He went to the king’s castle and told him why he paid a visit. The king called her daughter, but as soon as she saw the prince, she exclaimed:

“With all due respect, I would not even have my footwear sanitised by a male individual as aesthetically inferior to me as yourself.”

The views of the princess left the prince blue and he left the castle, but certain chemical reactions in his brain prevented him from excluding her from his thoughts.

“The number of lives I have is limited to the minimum, so I will do everything that is needed to convince this female individual to be my coequal life partner.” He told himself.

So the prince returned to his country and had several useful objects made: a golden hen with twelve chickens, a golden tool specifically made for spinning with golden hemp and a golden mirror, which made the most audibly pleasing music whenever a person looked into it. He then disguised himself and went to work as a multi-faceted assistant in the castle of the father of the princess he wished to become romantically involved with. He placed the various objects made of gold in his room, under his bed.

The next day, he put the golden hen and golden chicken in the middle of the room, where the personal assistant of the princess saw them. She immediately looked for her employer, who had a preference for glitteringly advantaged objects. The princess followed her house helper to the room of the disguised prince and clapped her hands when she noticed the golden hen and chickens.

“Oh, these are highly pleasing for the eye!” The princess said to the assistant. “Please, name a price, it is highly probable we can make a deal.”

“I do not ask for any money, I would only like a kiss from you. Do not consider this as sexual harrasment, but only as a matter of business.” He said.

The princess hesitated for a second, but because she didn’t regard women who made a living in the oldest profession in the world morally challenged, she finally kissed the multi-faceted assistant. Then she collected the golden hen and chickens and returned to her own room.

The following day the disguised prince put the golden tool used for spinning and the golden hemp in the middle of the room, which were seen by the personal assistant of the princess who rushed to her employer once again. When the princess entered the room and laid her eyes on what was in there, she became overly excited.

“What a feast for the eye! Name any price, I’m willing to give anything in return.”

“I don’t need money, all I ask is two kisses.” He replied.

The princess thought about it for a moment, but her views and opinion didn’t change since the previous day, so she kissed him and ran back to her own room.

On the third day the assistant hang the golden mirror on the wall and waited for the princess’ personal assistant to come. She dropped by indeed and when she heard the mirror making the most audibly pleasing music, she hurried to get the princess. They entered the room, but there was silence.

“Look into the mirror, princess.” The multi-faceted assistant said.

She did and the minute the music started she felt a sudden urge to become the owner of that golden mirror. She asked the assistant again what does it cost.

“Three kisses.” He answered.

This time the princess didn’t hesitate, she hugged and kissed him immediately, despite him being aesthetically challenged. Suddenly, the king stepped into the room and when he saw his daughter being facially conjoined with the assistant, he became highly enraged.

“Leave this castle now, if you wish to remain metabolically abled!” He roared.

The princess and the male person left the castle, and although the princess was very sad the disguised prince was happy. They travelled through the countries, until they reached the capital of the democratic monarchy of the prince, where they checked into an accomodation provider facility. He told the princess:

“I need to take actions to preserve my personal hygiene. As a deed of generousity, would you please sanitise my footwear? I’ll have to go into town.”

The princess became conversationally selective and did what she had been asked to do. Meanwhile, the prince returned to his castle to change into some high quality enhanced clothes and by a velvet coach he returned for the princess.
When he appeared in their room, the princess could hardly believe her eyes.

“Do you remember when you said you wouldn’t even have your footwear sanitised by me?” He asked the princess still temporarily in a mental slowness. “Well – and I’m pointing this out only as constructive criticism - I wasn’t that self fixated in that situation, I let you do the same to my footwear.”

“Forget whatever I said, I wish to become your coequal life partner and unpaid sex slave!” She laughed and hugged the prince tightly.
In the court of the king, the wedding was held and the aesthetically challenged prince and the visually pleasing princess lived happily ever after.
